Mission-2-CHOC
Interface between Meditec and Siemens/SMS hospital systems for complete hospital
admit-discharge-transfer processing, billing charges and abstracting.
History:
In the early 1990's, Children's Hospital of
Orange County California (CHOC) set up a multi-bed ward at another hospital,
Mission Viejo Regional Hospital.
Problem:
Mission Viejo's hospital information system
was provided by Meditec and CHOC's hospital information system was provided
by Siemens/SMS. The problem was how to transfer the complete information
on patient admission, bed transfer, patient discharge, patient charges, and
patient abstracting from the Meditec system to the Siemens/SMS system so that
CHOC personnel could manage the Mission information within the same system
as the main Children's Hospital.
Solution:
CHOC contracted with Bowman Interface Technologies
to provide the interface. The interface provides the following capabilities:
- Daily Mission Hospital sends files containing patient ADT information, patient charge information and patient abstracting information.
- The Mission-2-CHOC system loads this data and produces ADT files, charge files and abstracting files for the Siemens/SMS API.
- The system pends and releases charges and abstracting information to manage delays in the arrival of ADT information.
- The system provides translation (crosswalk) tables for all codes so that information can be converted from Meditec codes to Siemens/SMS codes.
- The system provides a procedure pricing module so that CHOC can set prices to conform to their operations.
- This module also provides pricing update information for the Siemens/SMS system.
- The module provides means of making mass pricing changes.
- The module provides standard pricing and override pricing options.
- The system has been running since 1993 and was updated in 2003 to include
additional data transfer required by HIPAA.
